Wheelchair & Mobility Access for Cappadocia Balloon Flights

Cappadocia balloon flights are accessible to many passengers with mobility limitations, but it requires advance planning. The basket is waist-high with no built-in ramp, so boarding requires crew assistance. Here is what you need to know.

Can Wheelchair Users Fly?

Yes, in many cases. The key requirements are:

  • You must be able to stand (with support) for the landing, which involves a bump. The basket does not have seats.
  • Our crew can lift passengers into and out of the basket. We have experience assisting passengers with limited mobility.
  • You should be able to hold the basket ropes during flight for stability. If grip is a concern, a companion can assist.

Boarding the Basket

Standard baskets have a small door or step-over entry about 1.2 metres high. Our ground crew (typically 4–6 people) can assist with lifting. For passengers who cannot step over, the crew tilts the basket to create a lower entry point before inflation. This needs to be arranged in advance—let us know when you book.

Recommended Flight Type

We recommend a Comfort or Private flight for passengers with mobility needs. Fewer passengers means more space inside the basket and more personal attention from the pilot and crew. The pilot can also communicate directly about landing preparation.

During the Flight

Once inside the basket, you stand in a partitioned section with padded walls on all sides up to waist height. The flight itself is very stable—there is no turbulence or rocking. Most passengers with mobility concerns report that the flight is the easy part; boarding is the challenge.

Landing Considerations

Landing involves a gentle bump as the basket touches the ground. The pilot will announce “landing position” and ask everyone to bend their knees and hold the ropes. If standing is difficult, our crew will position you in the centre of the basket with additional support. Read more about the health & accessibility guide.

What About the Wheelchair?

Your wheelchair stays with the ground crew vehicle during the flight. It will be waiting for you at the landing site. The crew drives it to wherever the balloon lands.
