Love Valley Balloon View: Complete Photo Guide
Love Valley is one of Cappadocia’s most recognisable landscapes. Its tall, slender fairy chimneys—some reaching 30 metres—create a dramatic foreground for balloon photography. The valley is also a frequent balloon flight route, meaning balloons drift directly over and between these formations.
How to Get There
Love Valley is a 10-minute drive or 30-minute walk from Goreme centre, on the road toward Uchisar. The main viewpoint is at the valley entrance where the road overlooks the formations. There is a small parking area. No entrance fee.
Best Photo Angles
From the Rim (Ground Level)
Stand at the valley rim with the fairy chimneys below you and balloons in the sky above. A wide-angle lens (16–24mm) captures both in a single frame. The compositions work in both portrait and landscape orientation.
From Inside the Valley (Hiking Trail)
Walk down into the valley for a perspective where the fairy chimneys tower above you and balloons appear between them. A telephoto lens (70–200mm) compresses the chimneys and balloons into layered compositions. The morning light rakes across the rock formations creating long shadows and texture.
From the Balloon
If your flight route passes over Love Valley (many do), you will see the formations from directly above—a perspective impossible from the ground. The chimneys look like a forest of stone pillars from 300 metres up. Ask your pilot if the morning’s wind direction will take you over Love Valley.
Timing
- Arrive: 20 minutes before sunrise. The first balloons inflate in the dark, creating dramatic flame-lit silhouettes.
- Golden hour: The best light on Love Valley’s rock faces is during the first 20 minutes after sunrise, when the low-angle light creates warm tones and deep shadows.
- Stay until: 30 minutes after sunrise. By then, most balloons are at altitude and the spectacle is at its peak.
Camera Settings
For detailed settings, see our golden hour photography guide. Quick reference: aperture priority, f/8 for landscapes, ISO 200–400, white balance on “shade” to enhance warm tones.
Nearby Viewpoints
If Love Valley is crowded, try the Goreme viewpoints or the other free watching spots in the region. Pigeon Valley and Red Valley both offer excellent balloon views with fewer visitors.
